Retail sales in Denmark rose by 3.7% year-on-year in August 2026, down from a 6.7% increase in July and representing the weakest expansion since April. Growth eased across most major segments, including supermarkets, department stores and specialized grocery stores (0.8% vs 4.1% in July), household equipment, furniture and building materials (7.5% vs 11.3%), cultural and leisure products (14.3% vs 17.2%), clothing, footwear and jewellery (7.8% vs 12.0%), pharmaceuticals and personal care products (5.6% vs 6.8%), and second-hand goods (10.0% vs 13.3%).

Meanwhile, turnover at liquid fuel filling stations contracted at a faster pace (-16.9% vs -14.7%). In contrast, revenue growth strengthened for consumer electronics (20.3% vs 17.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell by 0.6% in August, the first decline in four months, reversing a downwardly revised 1.0% increase recorded in the previous month.
