Slovenia’s retail sales rose by 5.7% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from a downwardly revised 4.9% increase in July and marking the strongest annual growth since March. The upturn was driven mainly by non-food products, where sales growth picked up to 5.3% from 4.7% in the previous month, and by automotive fuel in specialized stores, with sales surging 19.4% after a 14.3% rise in July. In contrast, sales of food items fell by 0.4%, reversing a 0.6% increase in the prior month.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales were up 1.0% in August, moderating from a downwardly revised 1.4% rise in July. Over the first eight months of the year, retail turnover increased by 2.7% compared with the same period a year earlier, as higher sales of automotive fuel in specialized stores (9.1%) and non-food products (3.0%) more than offset a decline in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco (-0.7%).
