US stock futures retreated on Monday, with S&P 500 futures down 0.5%, Nasdaq 100 futures falling 1% and Dow Jones futures lower by about 190 points. Investors returned from the weekend to another jump in oil prices, as hopes for a US–Iran agreement faded. At the same time, Treasury yields extended their climb to multi‑year highs amid concern that rising energy costs could further stoke inflation and increase the odds of additional interest rate hikes.

Markets are also bracing for key economic releases this week, including the PCE price index and the monthly jobs report, which are expected to offer fresh clues about the strength of the US economy and the future path of monetary policy.

In premarket trading, Nvidia slipped about 0.4% even after unveiling a new software platform designed to let AI developers build in safeguards for agents. Other major technology names also traded lower, including Apple (-0.2%), Alphabet (-1%), Microsoft (-0.3%), Amazon (-0.8%), Broadcom (-1.2%), Meta (-3%) and Tesla (-0.8%). Chipmakers were under particular pressure, with Micron Technology down about 2.2%, AMD off 2.7% and Intel losing 3.3%.
