China posted a current account surplus of $193.7 billion in Q2 2026, revised down from the preliminary estimate of $195.1 billion but higher than the $184.3 billion recorded in Q1. The surplus in goods and services widened to $223.4 billion from $187.9 billion.

On the credit side, receipts rose to $1.2146 trillion from $1.061 trillion. Higher prices for major commodities exported by China supported turnover, while weakness in the domestic economy led manufacturers to continue depending on overseas demand. At the same time, debits in the goods and services account increased to $991.2 billion from $873.1 billion.

This expansion occurred despite a sharp rise in oil prices following the war in Iran, a key supplier to Chinese refineries. China largely suspended fresh energy imports and instead drew down existing inventories.

In the income accounts, the secondary income balance showed a slightly larger surplus of $63 million, up from $38 million previously, while the primary income deficit widened to $359 million from $74 million.
