The NZX 50 advanced 151 points, or 1.1%, to 13,813 on Wednesday, snapping the previous session’s losses and rebounding from its lowest level since September 16, reached just a day earlier. All sectors finished in positive territory, led by consumer discretionary stocks, with notable strength also in communication services, technology, and financials. Sentiment improved on the back of easing oil prices, which helped temper inflation concerns.

Investors largely looked past fresh data showing New Zealand business confidence slipping to a three-month low, although it remained in positive territory. Gains were capped, however, by a subdued Wall Street lead, as a rise in US Treasury yields weighed on global risk appetite.

Hallenstein Glasson extended its rally, jumping 5.4% after reporting a 49.9% surge in net profit for the year ended August 1, 2026. Other notable gainers included Delegat Group (up 3.3%), Summerset Group (3.3%), Channel Infrastructure (3.2%), Chorus (2.6%), Infratil (1.9%), and Freightways Group (1.4%). For the quarter, the index was up 1.4%.
