Austria’s annual producer inflation accelerated to 4.6% in August 2026, up from 3.3% in July, reaching its highest level since March 2023. The increase was chiefly driven by strong price gains for intermediate goods (7.2% vs. 6.6% in July) and energy (7.2% vs. 2.6%), amid persistent supply disruptions associated with the conflict in the Middle East.

Prices for consumer goods edged up 0.3% following a 0.3% decline in July, while price growth for capital goods softened slightly to 1.0% from 1.1%.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index rose 0.9% in August, after a 0.3% increase in July. The sharpest monthly gains were recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (3.1%) and in the manufacture of basic metals (1.9%). These advances more than offset price declines in chemicals and chemical products (-0.9%), as well as in paper and paper products (-0.4%).
