Brazil’s producer prices increased 0.36% month over month in August 2026, reversing the 0.83% drop seen in July and marking the first rise since April. Prices advanced in 14 of the 24 industrial sectors surveyed.

After three consecutive months of deflation, the mining and quarrying sector returned to positive territory, with prices climbing 4.33%. The rebound was driven mainly by crude petroleum oils and copper ores and concentrates, whether crude or beneficiated.

Food product prices rose 1.99%, the strongest increase since November 2024, led by higher prices for semi-milled or milled rice (polished or glazed) and fresh or chilled beef.

Metallurgy prices, which had declined in July, advanced 2.13% in August, largely reflecting increases in steelmaking, non-ferrous metals, and copper.

By major economic category, prices for capital goods edged down, intermediate goods were stable, and consumer goods rose 0.96%.

Overall, producer prices were up 2.53% compared with a year earlier and 3.47% in the year to date.
