US stock futures inched higher on Thursday as investors sought fresh catalysts at the start of a new trading month, while markets continued to grapple with elevated oil prices and Treasury yields. Dow futures rose about 0.2%, and S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures each gained roughly 0.3%.

On Wednesday, the Dow and S&P 500 declined 0.86% and 0.25%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.24%. Financial and industrial shares dragged on the broader market as Treasury yields moved higher amid concerns that stubborn, energy-driven inflation could persist, with negotiations between the US and Iran showing little progress.

At the same time, core PCE inflation rose a smaller-than-expected 0.2% in August, bolstering hopes that the Federal Reserve will refrain from raising interest rates in October. Investors are now looking ahead to Thursday’s weekly jobless claims and Friday’s September employment report. Corporate earnings are also on deck from Nike, McCormick and Acuity Brands.
