European equities retreated on Thursday, with the STOXX 50 down 1.5% to its lowest level since mid-June and the STOXX 600 losing 0.9%. The pullback followed disappointing earnings from major US technology companies, which reignited worries about stretched AI-related valuations and triggered a broader global equity sell-off.

Investors also focused on a busy slate of European corporate results, while oil prices extended their advance amid renewed attacks on energy facilities in Saudi Arabia.

Among individual movers, Hermès dropped 6.6% after reporting flat sales in the region that includes China. Roche slipped 1.3% despite delivering stronger-than-expected revenue, and Thales declined 1.7% even after raising its full-year guidance. Barclays eased 0.2% despite a 12% year-on-year rise in profit.

By contrast, SAP traded broadly flat after lifting its full-year outlook. Nestlé rose 2.3%, supported by robust third-quarter sales growth driven by strong demand for snacks and pet food in emerging markets.
