Ripple wins OCC approval for national trust bank.

While Bitcoin struggles to clear $80,000 and Ether cannot reclaim $2,300, Ripple has reportedly received final approval from the US regulator OCC to establish its own national trust bank, Ripple National Trust Bank. Approval came days after the agency published final rules under the GENIUS Act on payment stablecoins, and on the same day the OCC urged small banks to enter the stablecoin market. The timing looks like a coherent regulatory push to open the banking perimeter to crypto issuers.

Recall that Ripple ran afoul of the SEC at the end of 2020. The US Securities and Exchange Commission sued, alleging the sale of XRP was an unregistered securities offering. The case stretched nearly five years, during which XRP was delisted from some US exchanges and the industry watched the trial as a key precedent. The turning point came in July 2023 when Judge Analisa Torres issued a mixed ruling: XRP sold on public exchanges was not a security, but sales to institutional investors violated securities law. The fine was $125m against SEC claims of $2bn.

The later stages favored Ripple. In October 2024 the SEC appealed, and Ripple responded; in 2025 the parties agreed to end the dispute, but in June Judge Torres denied a request to lift the ban on institutional sales and to reduce the fine. The bottom line: XRP on exchanges is not a security, and Ripple is now building a business on that basis, reaching the point of its own national trust bank under OCC supervision.

The new bank will perform three roles. It will manage reserves for the stablecoin RLUSD, safeguard holders' interests, and provide custody services for institutional crypto clients. RLUSD will still be issued by Ripple's New York regulated subsidiary; the federal OCC supervision adds a second layer of oversight. Important caveat: the new structure is not designed to accept retail deposits or to make loans.

The practical implication is institutional trust. Banks, funds, and payment companies that need regulated reserves and custody services gain a federally supervised counterparty, lowering their entry barrier. Notably, others are following the same path: HSBC in Hong Kong launched RedCoin, Visa and Mastercard are integrating stablecoins into payment rails, and now a crypto firm obtains national trust bank status. The line between banking and crypto is eroding faster than many expected a year ago.

I believe OCC approval for Ripple will set a precedent that prompts other stablecoin issuers and custodians to apply, and the OCC, judging by its current stance, will not block them. I do not expect a direct impact on Bitcoin's price because the market is dominated in the near term by the Fed meeting and tech earnings. But over the medium term a growing number of licensed issuers and custodians will expand institutional access to the sector, and that factor is one of the key arguments in favor of a market recovery after autumn weakness.

Technical analysis and recommendations:

Technical picture for Bitcoin. Buyers are currently targeting a reclaim of $80,900, which would open a direct path to $82,800 and then toward $84,500; breaking $84,500 would signal attempts to restore a bull market. On the downside, buyers are expected at $78,700. A return of the trading instrument below that area could quickly push BTC toward $76,900. The most distant downside target would be around $75,300.

Technical picture for Ethereum. A clear hold above $2,348 would open a direct path to $2,417. The furthest upside target is the high near $2,508; breaking that level would indicate strengthening bullish sentiment and a return of buyer interest. On the downside, buyers are expected at $2,274. A return below that area could quickly push ETH toward $2,231. The most distant downside target would be around $2,184.

What we see on the chart:

- Red lines indicate support and resistance levels where either a price slowdown or active growth is expected;

- Green lines indicate the 50-day moving average;

- Blue lines indicate the 100-day moving average;

- Light green lines indicate the 200-day moving average.

A crossover, or a price test of moving averages, typically either halts the move or sparks fresh market momentum.
