Analysis of transactions and tips for trading USD/JPY

The test of 150.20, coinciding with the rise of the MACD line from zero, provoked a buy signal, which led to a price increase of 20 pips.

Although data on Japan's external trade balance strengthened yen's position, it failed to retain its momentum. The minutes of the Fed's January meeting also exerted some pressure on the pair, but it did not lead to a significant change in the balance of power. Today, mixed figures have been released for the business activity index in the manufacturing and service sectors in Japan. However, demand for yen remained, as the strength in the service sector offset the weakness in the manufacturing sector. This kept the pair trading within a horizontal channel.

For long positions:

Buy when the price hits 150.46 (green line on the chart) and take profit at 150.91. Growth will occur after the breakdown of the daily high or if buyers manage to protect the local low.

When buying, ensure that the MACD line lies above zero or rises from it. Also consider buying USD/JPY after two consecutive price tests of 150.17, but the MACD line should be in the oversold area as only by that will the market reverse to 150.46 and 150.91.

For short positions:

Sell when the price reaches 150.17 (red line on the chart) and take profit at 149.74. Pressure will return in the case of unsuccessful bullish activity around the local high. However, be cautious with selling against the trend.

When selling, ensure that the MACD line lies below zero or drops down from it. Also consider selling USD/JPY after two consecutive price tests of 150.46, but the MACD line should be in the overbought area as only by that will the market reverse to 150.17 and 149.74.
