The Canadian dollar plunged sharply against major currencies following the release of Statistics Canada's unemployment rate data in early New York trading on Friday. The Statistics Canada said that July unemployment rate rose to 8.00 percent.

At 7:00 am ET, the loonie fell to 2-day lows of 1.0248 against the US dollar, 1.3491 versus the euro and 83.96 versus the yen. Against the Australian dollar, the loonie also edged down and dropped to a 3-month low of 0.9394 by about 7:00 am ET.
