The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors the rates for ships transporting dry commodities, experienced an increase of 8 points to reach 1,643 on Friday. This rise ended a four-day streak of losses. Specifically, the capesize index, responsible for moving 150,000-ton cargos such as iron ore and coal, increased by 6 points to 2,676, thus concluding a five-day decline. Similarly, the panamax index, which pertains to shipments of coal or grain in the range of 60,000-70,000 tons, advanced by 18 points to 1,375. Among the smaller vessel categories, the supramax index rose by 2 points to 1,012, achieving its highest level in over four months. Despite these daily gains, the main index registered a 2% decrease over the week, with the capesize segment declining by nearly 7%. Conversely, the supramax category saw a 9% rise, marking its second consecutive weekly increase.
