27.03.202520:02:54UTC+00TSX Closes Flat on Thursday

On Thursday, the S&P/TSX Composite Index remained unchanged, closing at 25,161 as the market digested recent trade developments. The announcement from U.S. President Trump regarding a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, effective April 3, and the hint of reciprocal tariffs expected to be revealed the next day, tempered expectations for selective tariff exemptions. Trump warned that significantly higher tariffs could be imposed on the EU and Canada should they implement retaliatory measures. Financial and technology giants, RBC and Shopify, experienced declines of 1.1% and 1.4%, respectively. Nevertheless, gains from leading mining firms such as Agnico Eagle, Wheaton Precious, Barrick Gold, and Franco-Nevada, which rose between 1.5% and 3.2%, alleviated some of the market's losses, driven by an increase in bullion prices.
