In March 2025, Colombia experienced a rise in its trade deficit, which expanded to $1.205 billion compared to a $0.927 billion deficit in the same month the previous year. This growth was amidst sharper increases in exports compared to imports. Imports saw a 16.5% increase, reaching $5.543 billion, recovering after a prior decline, with a notable 20.9% climb in the acquisition of manufactured goods. Concurrently, exports increased by 12.2% from the previous year, totaling $4.338 billion, largely driven by a significant 50.9% rise in agricultural products, food, and beverage sales. The ongoing US tariff war has heightened market uncertainties and altered global trade patterns, leading American businesses and consumers to seek new suppliers. As a result, Colombia's exports in agriculture and food sectors have seen significant growth.
