In May 2025, Serbia's annual inflation rate decreased to 3.8%, marking its lowest point in nearly a year, down from April's 4.0% and falling short of initial market predictions of 3.9%. The reduction was largely influenced by a further decline in transport costs by 3.4%, with notable decreases in fuel and lubricant prices for personal vehicles, registering a significant 9.3% drop. Inflation rates also tempered in several sectors, such as furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance services (4.9% from 5.3%), housing and utilities (3.3% down from 3.7%), recreation and culture (decreasing to 3.6% from 3.8%), and in restaurants and hotels (slipping to 7.8% from 8.1%), as well as miscellaneous goods and services (down to 3.4% from 3.9%). Conversely, there was an increase in inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose to 5.7% from 5%, and communication, which saw a slight uptick to 2.0% from 1.8%. The monthly consumer price index (CPI) recorded a minimal decrease, standing at a 0.2% increase, following a 0.3% rise in the previous month.
