In August 2025, Malta experienced an uptick in its annual inflation rate, reaching 2.7%, up from 2.5% in the preceding two months. This rise was largely attributed to increased costs in several key areas: food and non-alcoholic beverages climbed to 4%, up from 3.8% in July; furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance surged to 1.7% from 0.4%; recreation and culture increased to 2.4% from 1.5%; restaurants and hotels saw a rise to 3.5%, compared to 3.1%; and miscellaneous goods and services grew to 3.4% from 3.2%. Additionally, the prices for clothing and footwear bounced back to a 2.7% increase, contrasting with a previous decline of 0.3%. The prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2%), housing and utilities (0.7%), health (2.8%), and education (5.2%) remained stable. However, there was a slowdown in the price growth of transport, which decreased to 3.4% from 4.6%. Month-over-month, consumer prices elevated by 0.7% in August, up from a 0.4% increase in the prior month.
