In September 2025, passenger car registrations within the European Union saw a significant year-on-year increase of 10.0%, reaching a total of 888,672 units. This notable rise followed a 5.3% increase observed in August, marking the third consecutive month of growth primarily fueled by the introduction of new car models. Among the EU's largest markets, all four recorded positive growth figures: Spain surged by 16.4%, Germany by 12.8%, Italy by 4.2%, and France experienced a modest rise of 1.0%.

In the segment of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), registrations soared by 20.0%, with Spain and Germany witnessing substantial increases of 59.7% and 31.9%, respectively. Growth was also noted in France at 11.2%, whereas the Netherlands saw a decline of 3.3%. For the year to date, overall EU car registrations have risen by 0.9%. Simultaneously, BEV sales have increased by 13.1% to a total of 1.3 million units, constituting 16.1% of the EU car market. Among the major BEV markets, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands collectively accounted for 62% of all BEV registrations, with Germany showing the highest rise at 38.3%, followed by Belgium at 12.4% and the Netherlands at 3.9%. In contrast, France saw a slight 0.2% decrease in BEV registrations.
