In September 2025, Montenegro experienced a significant increase in its trade deficit, which reached EUR 344.8 million, up from EUR 288.6 million in the same month of the previous year. This change was due to a decline in exports by 4.9% year-on-year, totaling EUR 47.2 million, while imports surged by 15.9% to EUR 392 million.

For the period from January to August, the trade deficit expanded to EUR 2,866.8 million, compared to the same timeframe the preceding year. On a cumulative scale, exports decreased by 4.7%, falling to EUR 412.9 million. This decline was attributed mainly to significant reductions in the export of machinery and transport equipment (down 30.2%), manufactured goods classified by material (down 20.4%), and beverages and tobacco (down 16.5%).

Conversely, imports saw an increase of 7.6%, amounting to EUR 3,279.6 million. This rise was fueled by substantial increases in the purchase of beverages and tobacco (up 9.9%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (up 9.8%), and food and live animals (up 8.8%).
