In October 2025, Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.3%, surpassing market predictions of 4.4% and showing a decline from September’s 4.5%, the highest unemployment rate recorded since November 2021. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 17,000, totaling 665,400. Within this group, those seeking part-time work dropped by 4,600 to 223,800, while individuals looking for full-time positions decreased by 12,200 to 441,600. Concurrently, employment figures rose by 42,200, reaching a record-breaking 14.68 million, which significantly exceeded the anticipated increase of 20,000, following a revised gain of 12,700 in September. Full-time employment saw a rise of 55,300, reaching 10.14 million, whereas part-time employment decreased by 13,100 to 4.54 million. The participation rate remained steady at 67.0%. The underemployment rate also declined, moving from 5.9% in September to 5.7% in October. Furthermore, the total monthly hours worked across all jobs increased by 11 million, reaching 1,999 million.
