The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, an indicator of freight rates for ships carrying dry goods, declined for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, dropping 21 points to 1,830 points, its lowest level since mid-July 2025. The capesize index, which typically covers vessels transporting 150,000-tonne loads like iron ore and coal, fell for the ninth straight session, slipping by 1.1% to settle at 3,016 points. Meanwhile, the supramax index decreased by 32 points to 1,011 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which generally handles 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes of coal or grain, increased approximately 0.9% to reach 1,304 points.
