13.01.202613:40:06UTC+00US Consumer Prices Rise 0.3% in December

In December 2025, U.S. consumer prices saw a monthly increase of 0.3%, aligning with market predictions and mirroring the rise noted in September. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) faced challenges as they could not gather data for October and November due to the government shutdown, affecting the October 2025 reference period. Shelter expenses grew by 0.4%, while the food index climbed 0.7%, with equal contributions from both food-at-home and food-away-from-home sectors. Energy prices rose by 0.3%. Additional upward momentum was observed in sectors such as recreation, airline fares, medical care, apparel, personal care, and education. Conversely, there were declines in the indexes for communication, used vehicles, and household furnishings and operations. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, the core Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.2%, slightly below the anticipated 0.3% rise.
