The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic eased to 1.6% in January 2026 from 2.1% in December, in line with preliminary estimates. This was the lowest rate since November 2016, driven mainly by deeper declines in the prices of clothing and footwear (-2.6% vs -2.1% in December) and transport (-1.6% vs -0.1%). Price growth also slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.3% vs 1.7%), housing and utilities (0.8% vs 1.9%), and information and communication services (1.5% vs 2.3%). By contrast, prices rose more sharply for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.7% vs 4.1%) and for health services (4.4% vs 3.3%). Month-on-month, consumer prices increased by 0.9% in January, after a 0.3% decline in the previous month.
