17.02.202609:48:28UTC+00Sri Lanka Producer Inflation at 15-Month High

Producer prices in Sri Lanka rose by 2.5% year-on-year in December 2025, quickening from an upwardly revised 0.6% increase in November. This was the highest rate since September 2024 and was largely driven by a rebound in agricultural prices, which climbed 5.8% after a 0.4% decline in the previous month, particularly for perennial crops and animal production.

Manufacturing inflation also picked up, rising 2.3% compared with 0.8% in November, supported by higher prices for chemical, tobacco, and food products. In contrast, prices for electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply fell more sharply, dropping 6% after a 1% decline in the prior month.

On a monthly basis, producer prices increased 1.6% in December, following a 0.4% rise in November.
