08.04.202607:30:00UTC+00Germany’s Construction Slump Eases as HCOB PMI Climbs Toward Growth in March

Germany’s construction sector showed signs of stabilization in March 2026, with the HCOB Germany Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rising to 48.0 from 43.7 in February. Although the index remains below the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, the latest reading indicates a marked slowdown in the pace of decline.

The improvement from February’s level suggests that conditions in the German construction industry have become less hostile, even if overall activity is still shrinking. The higher PMI points to a more moderate downturn, potentially reflecting easing pressures in areas such as new orders, employment, or project pipelines.

The updated data, released on 8 April 2026, will be closely watched by investors and policymakers looking for early signs that one of Europe’s largest construction markets may be edging closer to recovery after a prolonged period of weakness.
