08.04.202609:00:00UTC+00Euro Zone Factory-Gate Deflation Deepens in February as PPI Falls 3.0% Year-on-Year

Euro zone producer prices fell further into negative territory in February 2026, underscoring persistent disinflationary pressures at the factory gate. The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the currency bloc declined 3.0% year-on-year, compared with a 2.1% drop in January 2026, according to data updated on 8 April 2026.

The figures, which compare prices in February 2026 with the same month a year earlier, mark an acceleration in producer-level deflation and suggest continued softness in input and wholesale prices across the region. On a year-over-year basis, January’s reading had already indicated a 2.1% decline versus January 2025, but February’s deeper 3.0% contraction points to mounting downward pressure in the industrial price pipeline.

While lower producer prices can relieve cost pressures for manufacturers and, ultimately, consumers, a sustained slide at the PPI level may also reflect weaker demand and could complicate the policy outlook. Markets and policymakers are likely to watch subsequent months closely to assess whether February’s sharper decline signals a temporary adjustment or the start of a more entrenched disinflationary trend in the euro area’s industrial sector.
