09.07.202610:00:00UTC+00South Africa’s Consumer Sentiment Edges Higher in July as PCSI Rises to 48.25

South African consumer confidence improved in July 2026, with the Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) rising to 48.25, up from 46.23 in June 2026. The latest reading, updated on 9 July 2026, reflects a month-over-month gain in sentiment as measured against the previous month’s level.

The July increase suggests that South African consumers are feeling marginally more optimistic than they were in June. The comparison framework indicates that the current figure is assessed against June’s performance, while the June reading itself was a comparison to May, providing a continuous view of how sentiment is evolving month over month.

Although still below the neutral 50-mark that would indicate broadly positive sentiment, the move higher from June to July points to a modest strengthening in consumer outlook as the third quarter of 2026 begins.
