Macau’s trade deficit widened to MOP 10.9 billion in June 2026, up from MOP 8.8 billion in the same month a year earlier. Imports jumped 24.4% year-on-year to MOP 12.1 billion, driven largely by surging purchases of gold and jewellery (up 79.1%) and mobile phones (up 46.8%), while imports of food and beverages fell 13.4%. Over the January–June period, import growth was particularly strong from China (40.8%), followed by France (10.9%), Italy (9.6%), Hong Kong (7.1%), and Japan (5.8%).

Exports rose 32.7% to MOP 1.3 billion, supported by robust re-exports of diamonds and diamond jewellery (up 47.3%) and higher domestic exports of copper and related articles (up 16.5%), while exports of pharmaceutical products and organic chemicals declined 12.3%. In the first half of the year, exports also increased to Hong Kong (72.7%), China (10.9%), and the United States (1.6%).

As a result, Macau posted a cumulative trade deficit of MOP 66.1 billion in the first half of 2026, compared with MOP 46.1 billion in the same period a year earlier.
