Costa Rica’s economy grew 3.4% year-on-year in Q2 2026, easing from 4% in the previous quarter and marking the slowest pace of expansion since Q1 2021. The moderation was broad-based across sectors. Manufacturing output contracted by 0.8%, reversing a 2.6% increase in Q1, while growth in agriculture and fishing decelerated sharply to 0.5% from 2.3%.

Additional slowdowns were observed in transport and storage (3.9% vs 4.7% in Q1), mining and quarrying (3.1% vs 3.5%), accommodation and food services (3.5% vs 3.8%), telecommunications and information services (3.4% vs 4.7%), real estate (3.1% vs 3.2%), administrative and support services (4.2% vs 4.8%), and education services (2.7% vs 3.1%). By contrast, activity accelerated in utilities (4% vs 3.5%) and construction (8.9% vs 7.7%).
