14.08.202619:30:00UTC+00Speculators Trim Bullish Bets on U.S. Crude as Net Longs Fall Below 100K

Speculative interest in U.S. crude oil futures declined in the latest reporting week, with net long positions narrowing as traders reassessed their bullish exposure. According to data updated on 14 August 2026, CFTC crude oil speculative net positions fell to 99.2K, down from 112.4K previously.

The drop in net long positions suggests a moderation in optimism among money managers and other speculative participants, who appear to be scaling back expectations for further price gains or tightening market conditions. While net positioning remains positive overall, slipping below the 100K mark could signal a more cautious stance toward U.S. crude in the near term, as the market weighs evolving supply-demand dynamics and macroeconomic uncertainties.
