16.08.202623:50:00UTC+00Japan’s GDP Price Index Cools to 2.6% in Q2 2026, Easing from 3.2%

Japan’s GDP Price Index eased in the second quarter of 2026, signaling a moderation in price pressures across the economy. On a year-over-year basis, the index rose 2.6% in Q2 2026, down from a 3.2% increase recorded in the first quarter of 2026.

The data, updated on 16 August 2026, show that while prices linked to overall economic output continue to rise compared with a year earlier, the pace of inflation has slowed compared with the previous quarter’s annual rate. The “actual” figure reflects the change in the second quarter relative to the same quarter a year before, while the “previous” figure measures the first quarter’s change against its year-earlier level.

The deceleration in the GDP Price Index suggests a slight easing in broad-based inflationary pressures within Japan’s economy, which may influence expectations around future policy and growth conditions as the year progresses.
