25.08.202605:06:31UTC+00Japan Leading Index Revised Slightly Upward

Japan’s leading economic index, which anticipates economic activity in the coming months based on indicators such as job offers and consumer sentiment, was revised slightly upward to 116.5 in June 2026 from an initial estimate of 116.4, unchanged from May’s upwardly revised reading. The index remained at its highest level since July 2021, bolstered by the government’s record fiscal budget, which included broad measures to ease cost-of-living pressures and emergency energy support to mitigate the impact of the Middle East conflict. At the same time, the unemployment rate held at 2.5% in June, its lowest level since July 2025, underscoring the resilience of labor market conditions, even as overall employment slipped to a three-month low. Consumer confidence also climbed to a five-month high, reflecting growing optimism about employment prospects and income growth.
