Ireland's economy grew by 10.2% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the previous quarter, rebounding from an upwardly revised 7.8% contraction and well above the preliminary estimate of 3.9% growth. This was the fastest quarterly expansion since the first quarter of 2021, largely driven by multinational-dominated sectors, which expanded by 11.2%.

Within these globalized sectors, industry output surged by 22.1%, while the information and communication sector grew by 2.3%. By contrast, domestically focused sectors expanded at a much slower pace of 0.7%, and personal consumption increased by 1%.

The Modified Domestic Demand (MDD) measure—which captures underlying domestic activity across personal, government, and investment spending—fell by 0.8%, reflecting a decline in investment. On a year-on-year basis, overall economic output contracted by 0.4% after a 13.2% drop in the previous quarter, marking the third straight quarter of annual contraction.
