Romania’s trade deficit widened to EUR 2.822 billion in July 2026 from EUR 2.700 billion in July 2025. Exports rose by 4.1% year-on-year to EUR 9.247 billion, driven by a strong increase in shipments to non-EU markets (+17.9%), while exports to EU countries declined by 1.2%. On the import side, total purchases from abroad grew by 4.2% to EUR 12.070 billion, reflecting higher inflows from both EU partners (+4.3%) and non-EU suppliers (+4.0%).

Over the January–July period, exports increased by 3.1% to EUR 58.270 billion. This performance was supported by higher sales of manufactured goods classified by raw materials (+6.8%), food and live animals (+7.9%), and machinery and transport equipment (+1.4%). During the same interval, imports advanced 2.0% to EUR 77.546 billion, with notable increases in arrivals of machinery and transport equipment (+3.2%), manufactured goods classified by raw materials (+0.3%), and chemical and related products (+3.7%).

As a result, Romania’s trade gap for the first seven months of the year stood at EUR 19.277 billion, down by EUR 0.2 billion, or 1.1%, compared with the same period a year earlier.
