Taiwan’s imports surged 44.3% year-on-year to USD 60.1 billion in August 2026, accelerating from a 37.4% increase in July. Demand remained particularly robust for parts of electronic products (up 62.6%), information, communication and audio-visual equipment (up 108.6%), mineral products (up 38.4%), machinery (up 12.3%), and chemicals (up 16.8%).

Mainland China and Hong Kong continued to be Taiwan’s largest sources of imports, together accounting for 21.1% of the total, with inbound shipments from these markets soaring 60.2%. Imports also rose sharply from ASEAN countries (up 77.6%), South Korea (up 47.7%), Japan (up 24.4%), the United States (up 35.9%), Europe (up 14.3%), and the Middle East (up 7.6%).

Over the first eight months of the year, total imports amounted to USD 437.4 billion, an increase of 40.4% compared with the same period a year earlier.
