Argentina’s consumer price index rose 1.7% month-on-month in August 2026, down from 2.1% in July and in line with market expectations. The largest monthly increase was recorded in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (2.8%), followed by education (2.5%). Prices in recreation and culture were unchanged, while clothing and footwear declined by 0.6%.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages made the biggest contribution to monthly inflation across all regions, driven by higher prices for vegetables, tubers, legumes, fruit, bread and cereals. Regulated prices increased 2.2%, mainly reflecting higher costs for electricity, gas, public transportation and private healthcare. Seasonal prices fell 0.9%, as lower prices for tour packages and clothing were partly offset by increases in vegetables, tubers, legumes and fruit. Year-to-date inflation reached 21.3%, while core CPI rose 1.8% in the month.
