11.09.202606:00:00UTC+00Romania’s August CPI Cools to 6.2% Year-on-Year, Extending Disinflation Trend

Romania’s consumer price index (CPI) slowed sharply in August 2026, with annual inflation easing to 6.2% year-on-year from 8.2% in July 2026. The latest data, updated on 11 September 2026, confirm a continued disinflationary trend in the Romanian economy.

Both the current and previous readings are calculated on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month’s price level with the same month a year earlier. The deceleration from July to August indicates that price pressures are easing more quickly, potentially relieving some of the strain on households’ purchasing power and giving policymakers more room to maneuver on future monetary decisions.

The August figure marks a significant step down from July’s level, signaling that inflation, while still elevated, is moving further away from its recent peaks and back toward more sustainable territory for the Romanian economy.
