Montenegro’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 4.5% in August 2026, up from 3.8% in July, reaching its highest level since October 2025. Price growth picked up notably in several categories: transport (16.9% vs 10.6% in July), restaurants and accommodation services (6.2% vs 5.4%), information and communication (5.7% vs 1.1%), recreation, sport and culture (3.2% vs 1.4%), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.9% vs 1.9%).

At the same time, inflation slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.3% vs 2.2%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.3% vs 2.2%), clothing and footwear (2.2% vs 2.3%), housing and utilities (1.9% vs 2.1%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.6% vs 3.8%), and health (4.1% vs 4.3%). Inflation remained unchanged for education and for insurance and financial services, at 2.7%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 1.2% in August, following a 0.8% rise in July. In addition, the annual harmonized inflation rate advanced to 4.6%, compared with 3.9% in the previous month.
