Serbia’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 2.2% in August 2026, up from a five-year low of 1.9% recorded in July. Price growth strengthened in several categories, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.9% vs 6.5% in July), clothing and footwear (1.8% vs 1.2%), housing and utilities (9.9% vs 9.7%), furnishings and household equipment (1.4% vs 0.6%), transport (9.3% vs 7.1%), information and communication (2.1% vs 1.9%), and miscellaneous goods and services (1.1% vs 0.7%).

Meanwhile, inflation in education remained stable at 1.2%. By contrast, price growth eased for restaurants and hotels (5.6% vs 6.1%), insurance and financial services (3.5% vs 3.9%), recreation and culture (9.6% vs 10.0%), and health (7.8% vs 7.9%). Food and non-alcoholic beverages saw an even deeper decline in prices (-6.3% vs -6.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.5% in August, rebounding from a 0.2% decrease in the previous month.
