Brunei’s annual inflation rate rose to 0.5% in August 2026, up from 0.0% in July, reaching its highest level since December 2023. Price pressures intensified across most categories, led by clothing (2.4% vs -3.8% in July) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.7% vs 1.2%). Inflation also picked up for transport (0.6% vs 0.2%) and restaurants and hotels (0.7% vs 0.6%). Price growth was unchanged for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (0.3%), health (0.6%), recreation (0.7%), and education (0.3%). Meanwhile, miscellaneous goods and services returned to positive growth (0.3% vs -1.0%). Housing prices were broadly stable (0.02% vs 0.0%), while communication costs continued to fall (-3.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3%, reversing a 0.2% decline in July.
