30.09.202601:30:00UTC+00China’s Manufacturing PMI Edges Back Into Expansion in September

China’s manufacturing sector returned to marginal growth in September, as the country’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 50.1, up from 49.8 in August 2026. The data, updated on 30 September 2026, shows the index moving back above the 50-point threshold that separates contraction from expansion.

The slight uptick suggests a tentative stabilization in factory activity after slipping into mild contraction in August. While the improvement is modest, a PMI reading above 50.0 is typically viewed as a positive signal for industrial output and could indicate a gradual strengthening in domestic and external demand.

With September’s figure now in expansionary territory, investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming data closely to assess whether this rebound in manufacturing momentum can be sustained into the final quarter of 2026.
