30.09.202607:00:00UTC+00Thailand Swings Back to Trade Surplus in August 2026 With $1.8B Balance

Thailand’s external sector showed a marked improvement in August 2026, as the country’s trade account shifted from balance to surplus. After recording a neutral trade position of $0.00 billion in July 2026, Thailand posted a trade surplus of $1.80 billion in August, according to data updated on 30 September 2026.

The move from a flat trade balance to a sizeable surplus suggests that exports outpaced imports during the month, or that import demand softened relative to outbound trade. While detailed component data were not provided, the stronger trade account in August could provide some support to Thailand’s current account position and, by extension, to the broader macroeconomic outlook.

Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming releases to see whether August’s surplus marks the start of a more sustained improvement in Thailand’s external balances or a one-off shift following July’s neutral reading.
