02.10.202604:38:01UTC+00Netherlands Inflation Quickens to 3.4%

The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands rose to 3.4% in September 2026, its highest level since May, up from 3.3% in August, according to preliminary estimates. The increase was driven primarily by faster price growth in energy, including motor fuels, where inflation accelerated to 13.9% from 11.6%, reflecting persistently elevated global energy costs amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Services inflation also picked up, rising to 3.9% from 3.7%, while inflation for industrial goods excluding energy and motor fuels inched up to 1.5% from 1.4%. In contrast, prices for food, beverages, and tobacco declined further, falling 1.2% after a 0.5% drop in August.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are estimated to have increased by 0.1% in September, following a 0.3% rise in August. The index for consumption abroad climbed 7.7% year-on-year, accelerating from 7.4% in the previous month. Meanwhile, HICP-based annual inflation increased to 3.0% in September, up from 2.8% in the prior period.
