05.10.202613:00:00UTC+00Brazil’s Services Sector Slips Back into Contraction as S&P Global PMI Falls Below 50

Brazil’s services economy moved back into contraction territory in September, as the S&P Global Services PMI edged down to 49.2 from 50.5 in August 2026, according to data updated on 5 October 2026.

The drop below the 50.0 threshold, which separates expansion from contraction, signals a loss of momentum after the sector had been marginally growing in August. The latest reading suggests softer activity and potentially weaker demand conditions in Brazil’s services industry as the third quarter drew to a close.

With the indicator slipping further below August’s level, investors and policymakers may read the September figure as a warning sign that the recovery in Brazil’s service sector remains fragile heading into the final quarter of 2026.
