Lithuania’s trade deficit narrowed to €223.3 million in August 2026, down from €274.4 million in the same month a year earlier, as export growth outpaced that of imports. Exports rose by 14.9% year-on-year to €3,461.0 million, driven mainly by higher shipments of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (up 41.2%), cereals (up 66.6%), and ground vehicles and parts (up 27.1%). Imports increased by 12.1% to €3,684.3 million, reflecting stronger demand for mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (up 26.4%), as well as ground vehicles and parts (up 24.7%).

Over the January–August period, the trade deficit edged down to €4,414.7 million from €4,422.7 million a year earlier. During these eight months, Lithuania’s main export market was Latvia, which absorbed 13.4% of total exports, followed by Poland with 11.9% and Germany with 9.0%. Imports were sourced predominantly from Poland (12.2%), Germany (9.3%), Latvia (8.6%), and the Netherlands (7.7%).
