09.10.202619:30:00UTC+00Peso Bulls Retreat as CFTC Net Long MXN Positions Drop Sharply to 10.7K

Speculative appetite for the Mexican peso has cooled markedly, according to the latest Commitments of Traders data. Net speculative positions in MXN futures and options, as reported by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), declined to 10.7K contracts, down from a previous level of 52.4K.

The sharp pullback in net long positions suggests investors have scaled back bullish peso bets, pointing to a more cautious stance toward Mexico’s currency. While the data does not explain the reasons for the positioning shift, the reduction in longs may reflect reassessment of risk, profit-taking, or changing expectations around Mexico’s macroeconomic and financial outlook.

The updated figures, released on 09 October 2026, will be closely watched by market participants as a barometer of broader sentiment toward the peso and emerging-market FX more generally, especially if the trend in positioning continues in subsequent reports.
