14.10.202601:50:15UTC+00New Zealand Dollar Gains as US Dollar Rally Pauses

The New Zealand dollar inched up to $0.562 on Wednesday, extending the previous session’s 0.5% gain and moving further off a 17‑month low of $0.558, as the US dollar’s recent advance paused. Market participants are now focused on US CPI data due later today, as well as upcoming speeches from Federal Reserve officials, for fresh guidance on the future path of interest rates.

Despite the recent recovery, the kiwi remains vulnerable, weighed down by New Zealand’s sluggish economic performance and widening interest rate differentials with other major economies. While the Reserve Bank of New Zealand has raised interest rates at its last two policy meetings this year, the official cash rate still lags behind those of several key overseas counterparts, diminishing the relative attractiveness of New Zealand dollar–denominated assets for global investors. Political uncertainty ahead of November’s general election is adding to the currency’s pressures.
