15.10.202606:19:49UTC+00Norway Trade Surplus Rises to Highest Since 2023

Norway’s trade surplus widened sharply to NOK 105.0 billion in September 2026, up from NOK 38.8 billion in the same month a year earlier. This was the largest surplus since January 2023, supported by a strong rebound in exports, which surged 53.3% year-on-year to NOK 207.7 billion. The export increase was driven mainly by higher shipments of raw materials excluding fuels (+13.8%), animal and vegetable oils, fats, and waxes (+20.5%), and other goods and transactions (+21.2%). These gains more than offset declines in exports of food and live animals (-0.5%), as well as beverages and tobacco (-25.6%).

On the import side, total purchases from abroad rose 6.2% to NOK 102.7 billion. This growth was underpinned by higher imports of fuels, lubricating oils, and electric power (+74.2%), machinery and transport equipment (+13.6%), and various finished products (+2.9%). These increases outweighed declines in imports of processed goods mainly classified by material (-14.3%) and chemical products (-0.2%).

Over the first nine months of the year (January–September), Norway recorded a cumulative trade surplus of NOK 713.9 billion, compared with NOK 528.4 billion in the same period a year earlier.
