15.10.202612:42:26UTC+00US Initial Jobless Claims Remain Low

The number of people filing for unemployment benefits rose by 1,000 to 199,000 in the week ending October 10, 2026, coming in just under market expectations of 200,000. Continuing claims, which measure the total number of people remaining on unemployment benefits and thus gauge the overall size of ongoing joblessness in the US, fell by 4,000 to 1,710,000. That level remains close to the more-than-three-year low reached two weeks earlier. Overall, the figures continue to point to a resilient US labor market, consistent with the Federal Reserve’s view that the economy is operating at or near full employment. Meanwhile, initial claims filed by federal employees—closely watched amid the administration’s efforts to reduce the size of the public sector—rose by 68 to 463.
