20.10.202607:26:11UTC+00Moldova Industrial Output Falls to 6-Month Low

Industrial production in Moldova decreased by 0.7% year-on-year in August 2026, following an upwardly revised 7.2% increase in July. This was the weakest performance since February and was mainly driven by a decline in manufacturing output (-2.0% vs +6.2% in July).

The manufacturing downturn reflected sharp contractions in several key categories, including beverages (-37.6% vs -23.2% in July), wearing apparel (-6.9% vs -4.2%), wood and wood products (-13.1% vs +43.5%), other non-metallic mineral products (-2.6% vs -0.6%), electrical equipment (-22.5% vs -2.3%), machinery and equipment (-29.7% vs +58.2%), and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (-29.0% vs 0.0%).

At the same time, production growth in mining and quarrying slowed sharply to 4.6% from 20.5% in the previous month. By contrast, output in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply accelerated, rising 24.6% after an 18.3% increase in July.

On a monthly basis, industrial output plunged 12.4% in August, reversing a 7.6% gain in the preceding month. Over the first eight months of the year, however, industrial production still expanded by 6.7%.
